What are chapters?

Chapter Cover

Chapters are building blocks of your story. Chapters can show your thought process, experimental, logical, or chronological steps of your project. Each chapter has its own datasets, personal notes, comments, and history. Don't worry about the order or the content of the chapters. They are not written in stone! You can always change their order, update their content, and more! This story has the following 5 chapters, each highlighting one feature of the Data Stories: What are chapters? Attaching data to your chapters. Notes & comments in different chapters. Attach a license to your story. Who can see my story?

Attaching data to your chapters

Chapter Cover

Each chapter can have its own datasets. To add datasets, simply add them to your story first (all your albums from Gallery are automatically imported to your story editor. You just need to decide which ones you want to add to your story repository). Then simply drag and drop the albums from your story repository to each chapter you like. Yes! as simple as that!

Notes & comments in different chapters

Chapter Cover

You can add notes and comments to each chapter of the story. What is the difference? It is simple: Notes are private and are only visible to you. You can add notes to each chapter. They can be ideas, reminders, or anything that you like to get back into in the future. Comments, however, are public, which means, if you share your story with others, or you make it public, everyone who has access to the story can post a comment, or see the comments by other followers. Comments are the best way to exchange ideas with others about the chapter.

Attach a license to your story

Chapter Cover

You can simply add a license to your story, to let others know how they can use your story and its data in case you share it with them. Simply choose a predefined license, or make your own personal license and attach it to your story.

Who can see my story?

Chapter Cover

Private, shared, or public? This is the question! The choice is yours. Each story by default is private, which means only you have access to it. Private stories are great to manage your various projects. Do you want to share a story with your advisor or colleagues? Easily invite them as authorized viewers to give them access to see your story. Leave comments to exchange ideas or communicate about your findings. Do you have a poster presentation, a new publication, or simply do you want to contribute to the community? Make a story about different sections of your project, poster, or publication, and make it public! Each story has a unique link that can be easily shared with others. Even more? Each story comes with a QR code, add to your poster, and people can scan it and see your story and datasets related to each section of your poster. They may even ask questions later through comments. But there is more! You can see how many people read your story, who downloads each dataset in your story (only Mitogenie members can download datasets, or add them to their gallery), and more! But this is just the beginning! So many exciting features are on their way!

I believe scientists’ pursuit of truth should not be limited by their access to tools but by the strength of their ideas.
